The Oakland Board of Port Commissioners unanimously appointed Michael Colbruno as the new Board President. Andreas Cluver took over as First Vice President, succeeding Yui Hay Lee, while Barbara Leslie, the outgoing President, was elected Second Vice President.

Michael Colbruno initially joined the Port Commission in 2013 and is now embarking on his second term as President. He previously held the role of Board President from July 2016 to July 2017. Additionally, he served two terms as Second Vice President, first from July 2015 to 2016 and then from July 2018 to July 2019. Notably, Colbruno is among a small number of openly-gay members on the board of a major U.S. seaport.

Beyond his role at the Port Commission, Michael Colbruno is a partner at California’s Milo Group, specializing in government affairs and public advocacy. His career has been marked by overseeing legislative activities, intergovernmental advocacy initiatives, media relations, and community affairs across the Bay Area.

Mr. Colbruno has been a steadfast advocate for environmental and sustainability initiatives at the Port, and he will play a crucial role in advancing efforts to achieve the Port’s zero-emissions objectives.

Another key focus for Mr. Colbruno will be attracting new logistics operators to the Port’s maritime and real estate assets. This strategic effort aims to expand the Port of Oakland’s commercial footprint, bolstering the city’s economy through enhanced industrial activity.

Andreas Cluver, the Port Board’s First Vice President, previously served as Second Vice President from 2022 to 2024. He held the presidency from 2020 to 2022 and was First Vice President from 2018 to 2020. Commissioner Cluver has been a member of the Port Board since 2016 and also serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the Alameda County Building and Trades Association.

Barbara Leslie, continuing in her leadership role as Second Vice President, has a distinguished tenure on the Port Board. She served as Board President from 2022 to 2024, was First Vice President from 2020 to 2022, and held the position of Second Vice President from 2019 to 2020. Ms. Leslie joined the Oakland Board of Port Commissioners in December 2018 and currently serves as President and CEO of the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.

All three officers will fulfill their roles for the next 12 months. The Port Board comprises seven members nominated by the mayor and appointed by the City Council for four-year terms, with residency in Oakland required during their tenure. Port Commissioners serve voluntarily without salary or compensation.
