IndiGo, India’s leading airline, has received approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for Special Visual Flight Rules (VFR) operations to/from Deoghar Airport (VEDO). This milestone makes IndiGo the first Indian carrier to operate at Deoghar Airport in visibility as low as 3600 meters for Airbus fleet and 3200 meters for ATR fleet.

Since July 2022, IndiGo has been facilitating air travel at Deoghar Airport, a crucial hub in the eastern sector of India connecting the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Previously, VFR operations were limited to daylight hours with a visibility requirement of 5000 meters, posing challenges during the winter season and leading to flight cancellations.

To address this limitation, IndiGo sought and obtained permission for Special VFR operations at Deoghar Airport. After a successful flight validation on November 10, 2023, actual flight operations on scheduled flights are now possible. This step is vital to mitigate disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions, particularly during the winter season.
