Enhanced capacity and modern amenities at the airport signify a milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s aviation and economic development.

Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh is set to receive upgraded air travel facilities and modern amenities. The foundation stone for a new Terminal Building will be laid on December 10, 2023, by Union Minister of Civil Aviation & Steel, Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia, and Shri YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, along with other dignitaries, including Gen. (Dr.) V. K. Singh (Retd), Minister of State for Civil Aviation; Road Transport and Highways.

Rajahmundry, known as the ‘Cultural Capital of Andhra Pradesh,’ is a dynamic city in India with significant potential for air travel. The city’s rich cultural heritage, trade, and tourist attractions make it an ideal location for the development of air travel infrastructure, which can greatly enhance connectivity and accessibility.

Due to rapid passenger traffic growth and the saturation of the current terminal, Rajahmundry Airport will undergo a Rs.350 Crore expansion, adding 17,029 sqm. The expanded terminal will total 21,094 sqm, accommodating 2100 passengers during peak hours and serving 30 lakh passengers annually. Currently connected to Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru, the airport handles 126 flight movements per week.

The airport expansion will include passenger facilities such as 28 check-in counters, four arrival conveyor belts (converting the existing terminal), eight X-Bis machines, three aerobridges, and ample F&B and retail outlets. The new terminal building will also adhere to Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan norms for facilities catering to Divyangjans. Additionally, the city-side area will be upgraded to accommodate approximately 600 cars for parking.

The proposed energy-efficient terminal building in Rajahmundry, with ample natural light, aims to enhance the city’s cultural appeal and attract tourists seeking an authentic Indian experience. The upgraded facility will contribute to the overall development of the state, improving air connectivity and offering enhanced passenger amenities.
