La La Anthony is expanding her footprint in the world of Hollywood. 

According to Deadline, under a first-look deal with 20th TV inked by Kim Kardashian, the 42-year-old actress and former TRL host is set to team up with her best friend and Black-ish creator, Kenya Barris, to star in a scripted TV show based on her best-selling self-help book The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex and Happiness.

Tentatively titled Group Chat, the comedy series, will receive co-production assistance split between 20th TV and BET Studios. The trio has also tapped Adam Kassan of Barris’ Khalabo Ink Society to executive produce the project.  

“I’m incredibly interested in telling stories that are personal, complicated, relevant, from my own experiences and those familiar to me,” Kardashian said in a statement, per Deadline. “I had a front-row seat to working with the exceptional team at 20th Television during American Horror Story: Delicate, and I’m so excited to dive into developing my first wave of television projects with the team led by Karey Burke and Eric Schrier, and to continue working alongside Craig Erwich and his entire group at Hulu and Disney.”

In her 2015 New York Times bestselling book, Anthony, the former star of VH1’s La La’s Full Court Life, shared her journey of crafting a life of love and success on her own terms. Before finding an equilibrium between a thriving career, a high-profile marriage, and motherhood, she faced a series of challenging dates, turbulent relationships, and untrustworthy friends. Her story is a testament to resilience and personal growth.

In her book, Anthony opened up her hard-earned wisdom into a personal guide for building healthy relationships and achieving a fulfilling life. Through candid reflections, she offered intimate glimpses into her marriage with former ex-husband and NBA star, Carmelo Anthony, and past experiences, providing practical advice on everything from teaching your partner respect to handling fickle friendships and uncovering the secrets to attracting a high-profile partner.

Over the past few years, Anthony has cultivated a remarkable portfolio in the entertainment industry.

She currently captivates audiences as the iconic Markisha Taylor, the OG trap queen, on 50 Cent’s acclaimed show BMF. Her impressive resume also includes standout roles in 50 Cent’s Power franchise, a leading role in Unforgettable, and a memorable guest appearance on Barris’ Grown-ish.

Despite her impressive resume of notable on-screen roles, Anthony is still on the hunt for her dream part. During an interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show on July 29, the mother and entrepreneur shared that it has been a lifelong dream of hers to create a short film based on the trials and tribulations she has experienced throughout her life. 

“I just wanted to do a short film based on some things that I’ve been through in my life that I feel like a lot of women can relate, so, I’m just figuring out how to put my story in a short film,” she shared.
