Reginae Carter’s acting career continues to blossom as she steps into the role of Miss 290 for ALLBLK’S Kold x Windy. 

The 25-year-old entertainer first became a part of the series when asked to join as a narrator for its inaugural season. Now, just one year later, she is thrilled to return with a role as one half of the rival rap duo, KTown, to Kold x Windy, the female rap duo navigating the dangers of the drill music game in the cold streets of Chicago.

“This was a super full-circle moment because I had so much fun narrating the show,” Carter told MadameNoire. “That was my first time doing something like that. So I’m like, Oh my gosh, this is my thing. I could do this. But then, for them to call me back and say, ‘Wait, we want you on the show,’ It was a full-circle moment and such a blessing when I got on set.”

Walking onto set to such a familiar and welcoming group of cast mates, put the battery in Carter’s back to step into the shoes of Miss 290. For her, the character is almost art imitating life, especially since she was born into music royalty. 

“It was, for sure, second nature, like, not even with the music, but just with Chicago,” said Carter. “All of my friends are from Chicago. I’m always around people from Chicago. Even when getting ready for the role, I’m like, ya’ll gotta help me study, tell me what terms to say, what the different lingo is.”

Carter’s character comes on the scene, and she’s all about taking over. She recalls how Miss 290 is edgy but still soft and how her group, KTown, is just as hungry as their rival rap duo, Kold x Windy, when it comes to making their dreams come true. Similarly, the sentiment rings true in Carter’s personal life, too.

“Miss 290 taught me you can see people as competition but never give up. Kold x Windy was a name before us, but we came in and were making noise already. It shows that no matter who’s talking or what people say, it’s up to you to tell your story. To write your story and to go as hard for you as you want to,” she said.

Carter is carving her way as she pursues her acting dreams. These dreams were ignited by watching people like Angela Basset, Taraji P. Henson, and her extended family member and fellow thespian Lauren London, whom she recalls helping run through audition lines while she was a kid.

“I feel like the first person that really showed me was Lauren because that was my family,” she recounted. “We went over lines together when she was working on The Game and it showed me like, dang, this is what I want to do. I want to be an actress. I want to be on a series. I want to do this.”

She also gives credit to her first acting role, where she starred in the 2019 film Pride & Prejudice:Atlanta alongside Jackeè Harry and Keisha Knight-Pulliam, to where her career is today. Family Matters star Reginald VelJohnson even played her father.

“I worked with some good people so I feel like that honestly showed me like, whoa, I’m literally working with people that I’ve been watching since I was a kid,” said Carter. “Even working with Mr. VelJohnson. For him to be my movie dad, Family Matters was my mom’s favorite show. It showed me that anything can happen as long as you work for it and you believe that you’re going to get there and just not letting anyone discourage you. Or just because that person is on top or in front of you, doesn’t mean that you can’t be beside them or in front of them next. Like, you never know. Never get discouraged.”

Now, she’s fulfilling that dream through Kold x Windy as Miss 290, but Carter’s vision for her career doesn’t stop there. She also shared her dream role, landing something on the beloved ABC series, Grey’s Anatomy.

“My dream role is to be on Grey’s Anatomy before it stops. That would be amazing because I’ve watched every season. I know everything about that show. It’s literally my dream role for sure, hands down or just working with Shonda [Rhimes] period.”
