TotalEnergies has initiated the construction of New York State’s most expansive onsite solar generation and storage system at John F. Kennedy International Airport. This project is a collaborative effort with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) and the New York Power Authority (NYPA). The solar carport, set to be constructed over one of JFK’s long-term parking areas, will produce approximately 12 megawatts (MW) of onsite power. It will also feature an additional 7.5 MW of battery storage to assist in reducing the airport’s energy consumption during peak periods. About half of the power generated will supply the AirTrain service linking JFK to the wider New York City region, while the remaining power will benefit disadvantaged communities nearby. The installation will progress in phases throughout 2025 and 2026, eventually cutting down over 6,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, which is equivalent to the emissions from nearly 1,500 gasoline cars over the same period. This project aligns with the Port Authority’s aim to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 across all its facilities.

Recently, TotalEnergies has secured over 1.5 GW in renewable Power Purchase Agreements globally, serving more than 600 industrial and commercial clients, with 1.1 GW already in operation. These projects primarily focus on enabling self-consumption at client sites and integrating renewable energy into the grid, aiding in their decarbonization initiatives.

In the U.S., TotalEnergies is among the top five renewable energy providers, boasting a diversified portfolio that includes large-scale solar, battery storage, onsite B2B solar distributed generation, and onshore and offshore wind projects. These are poised to generate up to 10 GW of renewable power by 2025 and over 25 GW by 2030. Additionally, the company recently expanded its flexible power production capacity by acquiring three gas-fired power plants in Texas, adding another 1.5 GW.

TotalEnergies is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. As part of this strategy, the company is developing a competitively priced portfolio that combines renewable sources like solar and wind with flexible solutions such as combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) and storage systems. By the end of 2023, TotalEnergies had installed 22 GW of gross renewable electricity generation capacity and plans to increase this to 35 GW by 2025, with the goal of producing over 100 TWh of net electricity annually by 2030.
