Marriott International has appointed Johan Cronjé as the new Regional Vice President for Sub-Saharan Africa, reinforcing the company’s growing presence in the region. Based in Cape Town, Cronjé will oversee Marriott’s managed and franchised operations across the area, continuing to strengthen the brand’s footprint and operational excellence.

A Seasoned Leader with a Strong Track Record

Cronjé brings over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, making him an ideal choice for this important role.

He began his career with Protea Hotels by Marriott in 2001, and over the years, he has held several key leadership positions within Marriott International.

His deep understanding of the Sub-Saharan Africa market and expertise in operational management have contributed significantly to Marriott’s success in the region.

A Career Built on Excellence

Cronjé’s career journey is a testament to his leadership and dedication. He began as General Manager of Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! by Marriott in Cape Town before moving on to open the Menlyn property as General Manager.

His subsequent role as Regional General Manager involved overseeing a portfolio of properties in South Africa and Tanzania, further solidifying his reputation as an accomplished leader.

In 2019, Cronjé was appointed the opening General Manager of Johannesburg Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch and Marriott Executive Apartments. His leadership in the Melrose Arch Precinct earned him the Cluster General Manager role, where he managed several properties in the area.

Most recently, Cronjé served as Area Director of Operations for Sub-Saharan Africa, where he successfully led operational disciplines and key business initiatives across the region.

As Regional Vice President, Cronjé aims to drive Marriott International’s expansion and further strengthen the company’s operations in Sub-Saharan Africa.
