Fresh numbers from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) show that July 2025 saw a 12.3 percent boost in international arrivals versus July 2024. According to INEGI, out of the 4.2 million international visitors, 50.5 percent were tourists who stayed overnight in Mexico, amounting to 4,245,420 visitors. This represents a 6.1 percent increase from the previous year, while the remainder, 49.5 percent, were excursionists, those who visited for a day without staying overnight. This shift indicates a growing number of travellers opting to stay longer, reflecting a positive trend for Mexico’s tourism industry.

Not only did Mexico see a surge in the number of international visitors, but spending also rose significantly. The foreign exchange income from all visitors in July 2025 reached 3 billion USD, reflecting an impressive 10.2 percent increase compared to the previous year. Of this total, 2.7 billion USD came from international tourists, while the remainder was attributed to border tourists.

Tourism spending per visitor averaged 357 USD, marking a 1.9% decline from the previous year. However, there were significant differences in spending based on entry method. Visitors who arrived by air spent significantly more, with an average of 1,194 USD per visitor, while those entering by land spent 359 USD, and border tourists spent just 121 USD.

This data highlights the importance of air travel in driving higher tourist spending in Mexico, particularly for longer stays and those who participate in luxury travel experiences or engage in business-related visits.
