Sabryia Reese was at rock bottom when she decided to let go and let God. Today, she is a sought-after brand architect and creative director, better known as The Fairy Brandmother®. Reese’s journey began at rock bottom.
Not even a decade ago, the native New Yorker found herself homeless, living in a shelter with her one-year-old at the time. Forced to look inward during this dark moment, she had a breakthrough. “I found myself in a homeless shelter in Brooklyn, New York. And after getting over myself, after crying and wondering how I got there, I said, ‘You know what God? If you get me out of here, I’m going to do whatever it takes to be who you’ve called me to be, because I can’t be anything else anymore. It clearly hasn’t been working, so I might as well try it your way.’”
From there, Reese turned the page on this chapter of life, and her journey truly began. Out of the blue, a friend reached out to let her know about a business workshop in Jersey City. Despite self-doubt and the hour-and-a-half commute from Brooklyn to New Jersey, Reese went for it. “I was taking these classes from the shelter, figuring it out,” she said.
That same friend connected Reese with her first client. Despite not having a clue this early in the game, Reese overcame her hesitation, accepted the opportunity, and got to work. The rest is history, as that client opened the door to a steady flow of leads. “Each client was a referral, thank God. They were all word of mouth,” she said. “That’s how I got into this now, I was thrown into it.”
Reese continued to say “yes” to new opportunities and it paid off.
Eight years in, Reese has come a long way from the shelter, now thriving as a business owner and mom to daughter Sumaya. She harnessed her creativity and ability to connect with her clientele on a human level to achieve everything she has today. “If you can imagine it, I can create it — from your website, logo, billboards, things pertaining to your event, banners, t-shirts, and more,” she said.

Her daughter was there every step of the way.
As a single parent on this growth journey, Reese had her daughter Sumaya by her side every step of the way, giving her a front row seat to the evolution of The Fairy Brandmother®. “I probably wouldn’t have pushed this hard if I didn’t have a little person that I knew was looking up to me and relied on me heavily,” said Reese.
She sees the impact of her own entrepreneurial journey showing up in Sumaya. “She has certain leadership qualities I’ve noticed because she sees me orchestrating and organizing businesses, it’s given her that confidence too,” said Reese.
‘Have enough faith within yourself to start. The answers will find you.’
Reese started from the bottom and built a thriving branding agency from the ground up. Her advice for aspiring mompreneurs: just do it.
“I had nothing. I didn’t have the wherewithal or the knowledge,” she said. “And I realized, every time I had enough faith within myself to at least try, the answers came. You attract what you want. Once I wanted something better, better started coming to me.”
Also in this episode of Mompreneurs, Reese discussed how to avoid burnout, why perfectionism is overrated, and what she is manifesting for her future.
