Storm Reid’s iconic character “Gia” won’t be returning for Season 3 of the hit HBO series Euphoria when it returns in 2025. Reid, 21, broke the unfortunate news during an interview with Rotten Tomatoes published Nov. 20 to X.

“Unfortunately, Gia’s not returning to the third season, but I am so so indebted to the cast and the crew of that show — to HBO,” the young actress revealed.

Reid portrayed Gia, Rue’s younger sister, a role opposite the remarkable Zendaya on the HBO drama. As a steady source of support and protection, Gia consistently sought to help Rue navigate her struggles with drug and substance addiction throughout both Season 1 and Season 2, giving one hell of a performance on screen.

“Euphoria’s a really special thing, and I’m so glad that that’s a part of my legacy and that I was a part of such a cultural phenomenon,” Reid said of her incredible role, noting how she would be “forever grateful” and “forever indebted” to HBO for giving her the chance to shine.

Although she’s no longer part of the hit series, Reid said she’ll be tuning in to watch the next season.

“I can’t wait to see what Season 3 has in store. I’m very excited,” she added during the interview with Rotten Tomatoes.

Why has Euphoria been delayed?

As previously reported, HBO officials confirmed in April that Euphoria Season 3 is still in development but has been delayed. An HBO spokesperson told Variety that the scripts for Season 3 are currently being worked on. However, the show’s star-studded cast—Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney (Cassie Howard), and Jacob Elordi (Nate Jacobs)—are also exploring other opportunities in the meantime.

“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” an HBO spokesperson said at the time. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

The delay was further compounded by the tragic death of castmate Angus Cloud, who played Fez, in July 2023, as well as the impact of the Hollywood writers’ strike.

In addition to Reid, Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat, also confirmed she would not be returning to the show, a decision she shared in August 2022. It’s unclear how their absences will affect the show’s storyline. However, in an August 2023 interview with Elle, Levinson described Season 3 as a “film noir” and revealed that Zendaya’s character Rue would return to the show as a recovering addict, exploring “what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.”
