‘Superfine’ Teyana Taylor, Janelle Monae & More Serve Stunning Looks Celebrating The Met’s Dandy-Inspired Exhibit

The countdown to the Met Gala is officially on, and Vogue is making sure we’re all paying attention. Not only did the iconic mag drop fire covers featuring this year’s co-hosts—Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, and Pharrell Williams—but they also gave us an editorial shoot that has the culture buzzing.
The shoot, created in partnership with GQ, is a preview for “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the Met Costume Institute’s upcoming exhibition. This year’s theme, Black Dandyism, centers around the rich, expressive, and complex fashion traditions rooted in Black culture. Vogue took that inspiration and ran with it—serving us one of the most visually striking editorial shoots in recent memory.

From the styling to the casting, everything about this spread feels intentional. Styled by Law Roach, it’s bold, fresh, and, most importantly, feels like us. The shoot brings together a wide range of Black talent already influencing fashion, pop culture, and how we see ourselves.
Featured models are the definition of Black excellence.
But what makes it even better are the unexpected groupings we didn’t know we needed. Teyana Taylor and Janelle Monáe looking like fashion’s flyest dynamic duo. Yara Shahidi and Aaron Pierre posted up with a vintage bike like they just stepped out of a Black rom-com. Tyson Beckford and Noah Lyles are serving grown man elegance in tailored suits. Each image is a reminder that Black is collaborative, expressive, and always pushing things forward.
Fashion icons Dapper Don, Spike Lee, Lana Turner, and Daryl Dismond’s portrait is everything. Historic and timeless, yet so now, the snap shows why these trend titans retain the name recognition and respect today.

This shoot isn’t just about showing off designer labels (though yes, the luxury brands were out in full force—Gucci, Dior, Sergio Hudson, Tom Ford, Marni, Theophilio, Tiffany & Co, and so on). It’s about celebrating the power of Black creativity and how our style tells stories.
It honors where we’ve been and where we’re going.

The Met Gala is May 5, but Vogue already teased what fashion excellence looks like. And it looks like us.
