Aruba Airport is delighted to announce a substantial expansion in its connection to Colombia, as Avianca reintroduces its non-stop route from Medellin to Aruba.

In a recent announcement, the airline revealed its ambitious plans to broaden its service to Aruba by initiating operations from Medellin, Colombia, with the introduction of four weekly flights starting in June 2024. These flights are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, departing from Aruba at 11:45 AM and arriving in Medellin, Colombia, at 12:25 PM.

This strategic decision to enhance services underscores Avianca’s dedication to fortifying connectivity between Colombia, Latin America, and the Caribbean through Medellin. David Aleman, Sales Director of Avianca for Colombia and South America, underscored Aruba’s significance as a premier destination for Avianca, a sentiment echoed by its current operation of six weekly flights from Bogota.

The Medellin to Aruba route has been in operation for some time, with Wingo providing four weekly flights on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Avianca plans to utilize an Airbus A320 with 180 seats for the Medellin-Aruba route. This expansion anticipates a 90% increase in seat capacity between the two destinations compared to 2023, with Medellin securing a 17% market share of all capacity from Latin America. Moreover, Medellin is emerging as a pivotal connecting hub for Avianca, featuring over 20 domestic and international routes.

The heightened frequency aims to provide passengers with increased flexibility and options when planning their journeys, not only to Colombia but also to other sought-after destinations in South America. Jo-Anne Meaux-Arends, Aviation Business Development Executive, expressed, “As a primary goal for our airport, we are committed to expanding and maintaining strategic connections, ensuring the long-term sustainability of our routes.”
