BARK Air, which touts itself as “the world’s first air travel experience specifically for dogs,” provides a luxurious, almost first-class journey for dogs and their owners who are eager to travel.

The service initially connects London with New York, and New York with Los Angeles. A one-way ticket from Stansted in London to New York costs $8,000 (£6,300), covering both a person and their dog.

BARK, the company behind this initiative, is known for its BARK Boxes, a monthly subscription service delivering toys and treats for dogs. It has partnered with a jet charter company to launch BARK Air.

The airline’s inaugural flight on May 23 promises a unique experience distinct from other companies offering specialized dog services, like the private plane firm K9 Jets.

A promotional video on BARK Air’s website features a flight attendant presenting a worn sneaker under a silver service tray for a delighted dog to sniff, followed by a dog slurping bubbly poured into a bowl, while other dogs engage in games on an in-cabin obstacle course. The authenticity of this depiction remains uncertain, but the website declares BARK Air as “a 100% totally real airline for dogs.”

Dogs enjoy free roam onboard and can use seats, beds, laps, or any accessible area. Similar to seatbelt regulations on standard flights, dogs must be leashed during taxiing, take-off, landing, or when turbulence is anticipated.

After booking, a concierge will contact passengers to gather information about their dogs to tailor a bespoke travel plan, enhancing the flight experience.

Before boarding, dogs are treated to “calming pheromones,” soothing music, and dog-friendly colors. Calming treats, noise-cancelling earmuffs, and calming jackets are also provided onboard to ensure a tranquil journey for all passengers.
